Silk Road: The Compassionate Heart of God

Today’s advocate, Cathie, visited Live Dead Silk Road with a team from Washington. As she walked the streets of our city, God showed her a picture of His heart for the people here.

Today was the first day of a new blessing.

We spent the morning receiving insights and teaching about God’s vision for the world, and the day’s focus was being aware of the culture and beliefs of the people here.

The team navigated our route to our destination via the transit system, which many local people use. On the bus a woman wasn’t happy with a young man because he didn’t get up and let me sit down. When he did finally move, she blocked the seat and motioned for me to sit down. She gave me a big smile and nodded her head, as if to say, “Here you go.” This is Turkish culture – respect your elders.

We arrived at a mosque that is considered very sacred by the people here. It was an unbelievable experience! As we walked through, I was impressed to pray in tongues. There was a heaviness. We, the women, entered through the women’s section of the mosque and at that entrance was a high step. I didn’t step high enough, fell forward, caught myself, and sat on the step for awhile. When this all happened, there was a lady sitting close by.  The expression on her face was one of concern – she cared.

When we walked out of the mosque, I saw a lady by a fountain taking a picture. I touched her shoulder and motioned to her, asking if I could take her picture. She looked at me and it was the same lady from inside the mosque. She was so excited and said, “No, no, no,” pointing “You, picture.” She wanted my picture. I said, “Sure.” She took the picture and I reached out to her again.

She quickly put her arm around me and would not let go. We walked as she held onto me tightly and so happy.

When I think of this, it brings a tear to my eyes. We can express caring for one another, even when we can’t communicate with words. Thank you, Jesus, for this huge blessing to see Your heart.

As I think about this day, my heart smiles.
