The term “kazakh” comes from an ancient Turk word meaning, “independent; free spirit”—a perfect description for its horseback nomadic culture. Kazakhstan’s vast terrain includes flatlands, steppe, taiga, rock canyons, hills, deltas, snow-capped mountains, and deserts. Located in Central Asia and is the largest landlocked country (by land area) in the world.Central Asia, is a major trade route between east and west. It shares a folk Islam and Russian Orthodox heritage, and people there often have only a superficial commitment to Islam. Christian witness is largely limited to larger towns. Many Kazakhs have never heard the gospel of Jesus. The foundation of Kazakh culture is hospitality, which always starts with a cup of tea.
