Setting the Table – An Introduction
“They will come from east and west, from north and south, and recline at the table in the kingdom of God.” (Luke 13:29)
#livedead #pray #NowruzThis year’s spring equinox will occur on Sunday, March 20. In response, Persians around the world will celebrate the ancient holiday of Nowruz. Nowruz is one of the most significant holidays in the Iranian calendar; it marks the beginning of the New Year.
On Nowruz, families gather around or near their Haft Seen table. They set this table with symbolic items representing blessings for the New Year, like prosperity and new beginnings. At the exact moment of the spring equinox, family members exchange gifts and a New Year begins!
Concurrently, Christians commemorate a different table. We remember Jesus breaking bread and pouring wine, and we honor the great sacrifice Jesus made for our redemption. We celebrate His open invitation to feast at the Father’s table for eternity.
The Live|Dead Iran team is counting down the days to Nowruz. We invite you to join our countdown this year.
Over the next 9 days, we will (figuratively) prepare a Haft Seen table. As we set the table, pray with us that Iranians “will come from east and west, from north and south, and recline at the table in the kingdom of God.”
