Shared Pain

Sometimes when you live overseas you get the opportunity to share the gospel with someone you didn’t expect to.

We had been serving at our ministry in China for a couple months when one of the staff members named Boran, who wasn’t a believer, developed a good friendship with me.

He was a young college student from Cambodia looking to get experience to further his business resume.  As we got to know each other better we began to be more open and share stories about our families.  One afternoon we landed on the topic of his brother.  Boran shared how his older brother had struggled with alcohol and how he had brought much strife to his family.  Boran looked up to his older brother so it pained him to see his brother making those life choices.

I began to share with Boran how my younger brother had been through a program to help his alcoholism and how painful it was to see him struggle with it. Then I shared how my brother was able to use his faith in Jesus to help him battle his addictions and how miraculously he had become a changed man.

I asked Boran if we could pray for his brother.  We bowed our heads and I said a prayer for the first time with Boran. He smiled and thanked me for the prayer. I hope this can be just one chapter on Boran’s journey to believe in Jesus.

Pray that Boran will continue to have believers influence his life, who take time to learn his hurts and to dig deep into the real struggles of life.  Pray that his brother would give up alcohol and that healing can come to their family.
